Start off with your supplies:
- 1 dowel
- red and blue paint
- white paint (not pictured)
- paint brushes
- 1 wood star cut-out
- 1 circular wood cut-out
- large popsicle sticks
- gold glitter glue (not pictured)
- colored felt
Paint four popsicle sticks red, three white, and one blue. Allow the stick to dry completely. Lay one popsicle stick horizontally and glue (with a hot glue gun) the red and white popsicle sticks next to each other alternating colors. Using the hot glue gun, glue the blue popsicle stick at the bottom of the red and white ones.
Glue the circle behind the popsicle sticks. Using the circle as a guide, place it on the white felt and draw the shape of a beard. Cut out the felt and hot glue gun it onto the back of the circle.
Cut out a circle for the nose and glue it onto the center of the circle. Draw in the face with a sharpie marker. Using chalk and a q-tip draw cheeks onto Uncle Sam.
If desired, use the red and blue felt to cover the backside of the popsicle sticks so there are no unfinished sides.
Spread glitter glue over the star and allow to dry completely. Then glue the star on to the hat.
Once Uncle Sam is completely dried, glue him onto the dowel (if desired, or attach something to hang him with).
For a fun finishing touch you can tie on a bow if desired.
Happy Fourth of July!
